Business Process Management – Aftermarket Services

 

EDS Warranty Services – Responsibilities and achievements–  Using the experience of over 20 years in manufacturing  & product support  in multiple industries, successfully ran this EDS business unit for the last 5 years.  Managed a business turnaround on this business taking it from a  losing operation with clients and employees exiting in 2000, to today’s strong profit engine, with growth of +20% CAGR over last 4 years.

 

Responsibilities -

 

Hi-Tech Industry

Sell and negotiate contracts, manage the P&L (revenue and expense), and all operations of this multi-client, multi-service, multi- platform business that manages warranty service on OEM products.  This is a global business with services provided in 126 counties, over six (6) continents for multiple Fortune 50 hi-tech industry clients.  Services include: business process consulting, hosted applications, help desk, technical support center, data center / server farm, systems development , part replacement, claims payment, and all business and commercial activities which supports over 20,000 service technicians.  I also provide support, SME knowledge, and costs/price all business development over a global market place with proposals to multi industry large clients. Current development activities include proposals in EMEA/AP.

Key Metrics- Warranty Services, through Dec.,2005, has processed customer service calls, business rules adjudication, coverage, and payments on approximately thirty (30) million service events  and fifty (50) million part orders valued at more than $5Billion dollars in payments.  As to value delivered, one global client has stated our program has saved them over $40M per year

 

Ryder Systems -Aviation Services – Re-engineered the airline aftermarket parts distribution business of this billion$ airline service division (Aviall).  Programs implemented saved  $5 million in the 1st year.

 

British Airways – Maintenance and Engineering -(MRO)-Completed a Best Practice study for British Airways for business process re-engineering programs  and issues within the Maintenance and Engineering environment for aircraft (hangar, depot, parts).  EDS study involved ten airlines on three continents.

 

Service Industry Modernization – use of IT / Internet / E. Business Solution Models

 

Member of EDS E. Solutions Digital Supply Chain organization – Full digitalization and integration of manufacturers aftermarket service and spare parts activities.  This included  e. strategy. e. procurement, e. architecture, ERP integration, application service provider (asp's) models, e. communities, business intelligence, customer relationship management, and supply chain management.  Role included working with global companies as an aftermarket service consultant in identifying overall business strategies and programs and appropriate technical architecture requirements. Solution Architect and the client relationship manager for  major Aftermarket Service proposals ($20-$40M)

Manufacturing industry  roles and executive level consulting experience

 

·         Provided an analysis to the President and Controller of a major Division of Fortune 50 corporation on the existing IT strategy and how it fit their aggressive acquisition program.  Recommendations were prepared for going forward. (conglomerate)

 

·         Developed an unsolicited business proposal and delivered it directly to the Chairman of the Board of a Fortune 50 corporation for the creation of a new division based upon an innovative model involving his firm, a large US Gov. agency, service operators, other industry OEM manufacturers, and a major IT / communication provider.   The alliance "program " would  reduce costs and add  “step change” efficiency for all industry participants.  The Chairman set up meetings, facilitated by me,  with his key division president's and VP's to explore this concept.  (Project put on hold due to a divestiture program). 

 

·         Provided financial analysis and the business case  for a major successful acquisition.  Results were presented to Board of Directors, and Wall Street investment firm for acquiring funding.

 

·         Provided a “competitive” cost study for all major products of a company’s largest division, resulting in a shift in product marketing strategy toward more profitable lines.

 

·         Developed a manufacturing resource plan for a 24 plant national operation with vendor sourcing plans tailored to seasonal sales outlooks and individual plant capacity constraints.

 

·         Designed, developed, and managed implementation of a complete financial system, including accounting, financial control systems, reporting, and an operations management & control system for a newly acquired major division of a Fortune 100 Corporation.

 

Supply Chain - Logistics Industry  (warehousing, inventory, product sales and distribution)

 

·         Managed the largest and most profitable distribution business in the company.  This included multi-state warehouse operations, truck fleets, sales staff (25), and customer service center..

 

Building and Construction Industry

·         Provided counsel to owners of a construction company on capital funding for expansion (successful).

 

Government

 

·         Co-author of a major government study on fuel conservation. Findings were presented to Virginia legislature and for supporting the passing of a new state law, and, as support in Federal legislation presented  to the U. S. Department of Transportation. 
Authors were given credit in the U.S. Congressional Record.

 

·         Co-author of a study on safety barriers used in major highway construction corridors.  Results provided evidence for a major change by all states  justified on our analysis.  This new program is believed to have saved many lives.


 

Airline Industry and Aerospace Aftermarket / MRO Industries

 

Managed strategy, marketing, and sales activities to global airlines and aerospace companies for products and services for aircraft maintenance and flight operations  with accounts on all continents.  Long term contract client base included over 50 airlines (ex. British Airways, Continental, Northwest, Virgin Atlantic, Thai Airways, Air China, Qantas) and 100+ contracts.  Some representative large projects are described below.

 

 

·         Provide strategy and high level design for DHL Express operations for  re-engineering all airline systems at headquarters in Brussels (Phase I).  Completed Phase II in 2000 and  EDS was selected over Sabre and Unisys to complete Phase III (product evaluation and selection).    Phase IV was worth approximately $20M for EDS.

 

·         Managed very large successful proposals to British Airways.  Projects were :    
1) the consolidation of global financial systems and outsourcing (10 yr.) covering over 80 countries and 600 people, and,
2) all systems support for the MRO operations of British Airways  (7 yr. deal).

 

Roles included:

Managing relationships with BA’s key general managers, including fleet managers for 747, 777, 737, and Airbus,  the Managing Director of BA-MRO, as well as BA corporate executives (CFO,  CIO, Treasurer, Finance Directors, Controllers)

Designing the multi currency and reporting model

Staffing and managing the development and delivery of the EDS solutions

Developing value added business initiatives for benefits in “above scope” areas

Developing a “supply chain” conceptual model for the EDS solution involving large vendors

 

·         Was the  industry advisor  (subject matter expert providing recommendations) for solution design on key Systems Operation Control Center re-engineering components for Continental Airlines.  Project was credited with saving over $50 million per year and is the airline industry standard today.

Result- Continental was a major turnaround story and named “Airline of the Year” two (2) consecutive years, partly due to major improvements in operations and on-time service with the new SOCC. Customer loyalty improved dramatically due to service dependability.

 

·         Delivered  a client server “front-end” pilot to large legacy operations applications used for dispatching and releasing aircraft (flight planning, weather, load planning, etc.).

 

·         Provided business consulting on product and marketing strategies to the Managing Director of a major European international airline’s data processing subsidiary (Lufthansa Systems).  Reviewed entire product portfolio and provided direction and marketing support for product introduction models and trade show presence strategy.
