PASSPORT CHANGE
Beginning January 8, 2007 anyone
traveling by air or sea to or from the United States and Canada or Mexico must
carry a passport or other federally recognized identification to return to the
United States.
These new rules also apply to
U.S. citizens entering from Central and South America, the Caribbean and
Bermuda.
On January 1, 2008 the rules
will be extended to all border crossings, including those on land. This new
requirement will also affect certain foreign nationals who currently are not
required to present a passport to travel to the United States. Most Canadian
citizens, citizens of british Overseas Territory of Bermuda and Mexican citizens
will be affected by the implementation of this requirement. |

Get the Best Seat on the Plane |
|
|
(1)
Plan ahead, try to make your travel reservations as soon as you can, preferably
two weeks in advance. This gives you a better opportunity for a good seat and a
good rate.
(2) Check your
location at
www.seatguru.com
If you know the
type of plane that you will be on, you can check for power, avoid the galley or
restroom sidecar seats. If you prefer extra leg room, you might prefer the exit
row. If you like to recline, you would not.
(3) If your
travel plans come at short notice and you pay a full fare, ask the difference in
price to upgrade to First Class. For certain routes, like Las Vegas and Hawaii,
First Class is sometimes even less than coach. During the holidays, Business and
First Class seats are lower price than normal, so it may pay to upgrade. As
about the "Y Upgrade", the price to upgrade from full fare varies and may be as
little as $50 (depending on length of flight, airline and date).

What to do, Cancelled or Delayed |
|
|
If your flight is cancelled or
delayed for reasons other than weather,
Rule 240 states that the
airline should put you on the next available flight on any airline at no extra
charge.
Many ticket / counter agents are
not familiar with
Rule 240, and most will not
offer it. It is up to you to inform them. Politely ask for a Supervisor if
necessary, and be aware that
Rule 240 may vary slightly
based on the airline carrier.
Always remember to be polite,
respectful and patient regardless of the circumstances. The ticket agents are
not responsible for the delay, but they could be your heroes in the event of
unexpected delays.
for copy of Rule 240
that you can print and keep in your Carry-On luggage. In the event of a
cancellation, delay or overbooked "bump" for more than two hours, politely share
the document with the ticket agent and ask for assistance.

Best Time to Buy Tickets |
|
|
Typically the best time to purchase
airline tickets is Wednesday morning, as early as you can.
Airlines load their computers between 12:00 and 1:00 AM with the lowest cost
airfares that were announced the previous day. These low rates are cancelled if
not purchased within 24 hours. Based on previous year statistics, the day with
the lowest rates is Wednesday. The time zone is based on airline carrier
headquarters. American Airlines and Southwest are Central Time, Delta is Eastern
Time, check airline headquarters for time zone.
Plan to book your flight at least
two weeks in advance, more if possible. Last minute reservations cost more, so
schedule accordingly to save.
If you can be flexible, compare
the prices to other local airports, as well as other times and carriers.

Avoid Jet Lag |
|
|
Drink plenty of water. Avoid coffee,
tea and caffeinated drinks. Fit the affects of dehydration.
Eat lightly on the flight and avoid rich or heavy foods when you land.
Stretch your legs, lift your feet
and rotate them at your ankle during long flight. It's good for the circulation.
If possible, allow yourself time
to adjust to a new time zone in advance of important meetings.

Double your miles
Sign-up for a credit card that offers airline miles as rewards
for every dollar that you spend. If you have the option to choose the credit
card that you use, charge the airfare, hotel and rental cars on your mileage

by earning enough rewards to take them on a special vacation.
